A remnant of original tallgrass prairie โ still alive in Hinsdale. We're the community that cares for it: removing invasives, growing natives, and sharing what we know.
"A step down from a preserve โ a living place quietly holding on, and worth fighting for."
โ Hinsdale Prairie FriendsBefore European settlement, tallgrass prairie blanketed nearly 22 million acres of Illinois. Today, less than 2,500 acres of original prairie survive. One of them is right here in Hinsdale โ and Hinsdale Prairie Friends exists to protect it.
Our work is hands-on and seasonal. We clear invasives, nurture native species, and train community members in the science and practice of prairie restoration. We also consult for homeowners and schools wanting to bring native plants to their own spaces.
Native plant restoration, community education, and consulting โ all in service of a single piece of original Illinois that deserves to endure.
